You: 📎 Card statement screenshot Add these to Simple Money for me
AI: I read 23 transactions from your statement. I'll guess the categories and add them.
AI: Done
  • Groceries · 12 items · $312.40
  • Transportation · 5 items · $48.75
  • Entertainment · 6 items · $67.30

Hand over a statement, and the logging is done

Give your card statement or bank history to an AI agent — as a CSV, PDF, or screenshot — and just say "add these." The AI reads it, guesses categories from merchant names, and adds everything to Simple Money in one go.

You can add up to 500 transactions at once.

No bank connections to set up. If your AI can read it, Simple Money can import it.

You: Here's last month's card statement as a PDF. Add it to Simple Money — just ask me about anything you can't categorize.

AI: I read 18 transactions from your statement. The only ones I can't categorize are 3 Amazon purchases ($16.99 / $8.49 / $42.30) — what should those be?

Reading the numbers is the AI's job

Just ask "Am I overspending this month?" or "How does this compare to last month?" and the AI reads your income, spending by category, and budget status — then answers in plain language. Any time period works: this week, the past 30 days, or the same month last year.

Keep the conversation going with "OK, adjust my budget" and it will suggest a realistic amount based on your history — and set it for you.

You: I feel like I'm overspending this month

AI: You've spent $2,495 this month. We're only 70% of the way through the month, but you've already used 92% of your $450 groceries budget — about $85 ahead of this time last month. Everything else is on pace.

You: Set my groceries budget to something realistic

AI: Your grocery spending averaged $524 a month over the past 3 months. I've updated the budget from $450 to $525.

FAQ

Does it work on iPhone or iPad?

The MCP server is a Mac-only feature. But with iCloud sync turned on, anything added on your Mac also shows up in Simple Money on your iPhone and iPad (sync happens when you open Simple Money).

Does it cost anything?

The MCP server is a premium feature.

Which AI agents can I use?

Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Codex, and any other agent that supports locally running MCP servers.

Is my financial data sent anywhere?

The MCP server itself runs only on your Mac and doesn't send your data anywhere. However, a connected AI agent processes your conversation — including any financial data it reads — on that service's servers. Only connect agents you trust.

Could the AI delete my data by accident?

AI agents can't delete categories at all. Most agents also ask for confirmation before writing or deleting transactions and budgets. And if you're ever worried, turning off the MCP server in Settings cuts access immediately.

For developers

Simple Money's MCP server provides 20 tools covering transactions, categories, budgets, and reports. It also works as a command-line tool you can use directly from the terminal.
